SIU’s THRIVE event on Sept. 17 focuses on mental health, suicide prevention
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host an entertaining, informative event focusing on wellness, mental health and suicide prevention on Sept. 17. Wellness and Health Promotion Services is sponsoring THRIVE from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Student Services Building Pavilion, and while the focus is especially on students, everyone is welcome.
Held during Suicide Prevention Month, the free, expo-style event will feature interactive exhibits and booths, treats, prizes and giveaways. Peer-to-peer discussions and information about tools and resources will also be included and presented in a positive, community-based format by SIU’s Student Health Services and partners across the university.
Organizers say attendees will learn about coping strategies, resiliency and social connectedness.
