SIU’s Paul Simon Institute hosts public service advocate Max Stier

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Max Stier, president and CEO of the nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service, will join Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Paul Simon Public Policy Institute for a virtual conversation at 1 p.m. Monday, July 14.

Stier will discuss the “extraordinary challenges currently facing federal workers and the disruption in American government resulting from the policies of President Donald Trump’s administration,” John Shaw, institute director, said.

The discussion via Zoom is free and open to the public, but registration to view the conversation is required. The event is part of the institute’s “Understanding Our New World” discussion series. Visit paulsimoninstitute.org/events to register.

“Max Stier is a steadfast and persuasive champion for public service,” Shaw said. “He has been a powerful and courageous voice in recent months, arguing that policies aimed at dismantling departments and slashing federal jobs are doing grave damage to the American government and society.

“We are eager to hear Mr. Stier’s reflections on how we can repair the damage that has been done and re-establish respect for government and public service,” Shaw said.

Stier is the founding president of the Partnership for Public Service, which was established in 2001. The organization works to encourage careers in public service, train government leaders and promote a supportive relationship between government and American society.

Stier earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1987 and his law degree from Stanford Law School in 1992.

Attendees are encouraged to submit questions for Stier on the registration form or email questions to paulsimoninstitute@siu.edu.
