Help SIU save energy, improve sustainability over July 4 holiday

As SIU Carbondale prepares for the July 4 holiday, now is a good time to take simple steps to save energy, which will help the university improve sustainability, one of the five pillars of the Imagine 2030 strategic plan. The university is asking employees and students to help conserve energy.

Measures to conserve energy and associated costs include:

  • Turn off all office lights, and individual workplace lights, when your area is not being used.
  • Turn off any unused office or lab equipment including PCs, copiers and printers.
  • Properly shut all outside windows and doors.
  • Close window blinds.
  • Report any heating or cooling systems that are malfunctioning or operating unnecessarily by emailing foc.facilities@siu.edu.
  • Unplug unused appliances.

These measures will help SIU Carbondale reach its Imagine 2030 goal “to become known as a forward-thinking, environmentally responsible university that embraces sustainability, reduces its carbon footprint, pursues conscientious energy efficiencies, and creates new innovative practices to become a leader in sustainability within the state and higher education community at large.”
