SIU offering safe, secure Amazon Locker package pickup option
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Tales of porch pirates throughout the country abound these days, so Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering a safe, convenient way for people to get delivery of Amazon packages.
“We are offering this free service to enhance the ease of access to delivery of packages and improve the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, and people from the surrounding community,” said Tena Bennett, assistant vice chancellor of student affairs and auxiliary enterprises. “It’s a convenient and secure way to arrange delivery of Amazon packages.”
Easy to use, accessible
Community members, faculty and staff are welcome to use the Amazon lockers at the south end of the first floor of the Student Center. Students can also use lockers at Grinnell Hall, Trueblood Hall and Evergreen Terrace.
Using the Amazon locker delivery system is a simple process, Bennett said. When placing an order, simply select “pickup” and then the appropriate location. Users will receive a delivery confirmation email with instructions and a six-digit code or bar code that they can use to open the locker.
The lockers are designed to be accessible to accommodate everyone. All lockers include voice features as well as large- and high-contrast text. Users may select lower locker slots, which are 15-48 inches from the floor, for easier access.

The public lockers will be accessible any time the Student Center is open. During the spring semester, the building is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 2-8 p.m. Sunday. Hours vary, depending upon the time of year. Visit the Student Center website for current hours.
Customers will have three days to pick up packages, or the items are automatically returned and accounts are credited. Locker users may forward the confirmation email to a trusted friend or family member so they can pick up the package.
There are a few restrictions. Products must weigh less than 10 pounds, be no larger than 16-by-12-by-14 inches and be sold or fulfilled by Amazon. Find complete eligibility details online.
