Increasing awareness of trauma symptoms
The focus of this workshop will be on increasing participants’ awareness of the unique symptoms associated with chronic, interpersonal violence, particularly during sensitive development periods, according to Martha “Marti” Crothers, founder of the Coffman-Crothers program.
The workshop will help people identify their clients’ immediate and long-term trauma-related needs and select and use safe, evidence-based/evidence-informed treatments as well as build and practice creative skills to help their clients adjust and thrive. Participants will learn how exposure to chronic interpersonal violence, particularly in childhood, can impact adults and how to differentiate between common post-traumatic responses to single-event trauma exposure in adulthood (type 1 trauma) and chronic interpersonal violence exposure in childhood (type 2/complex trauma).
Through demonstrations and role play activities, the participants will also learn effective therapy approaches for their clients, giving them the knowledge, skills and resources to be able to confidently and effectively treat adults who have suffered complex trauma.
