Children’s choir to present holiday concert Sunday
The Southern Illinois Children’s Choir will present its holiday concert, “Joyful, Joyful,” beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Grace United Methodist Church, 220 N. Tower Road, Carbondale. The performance is free and open to the public.
This season’s choir features 19 children between the ages of 5 and 14. Under the direction of Alice Berry, an assistant instructor in the SIU School of Music, the concert will feature performances from composer Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth symphony; ”Joyful, Joyful” from the film, “Sister Act II”; “Light One Candle,” from Peter, Paul and Mary; songs in French and Latin, and a Brahm’s lullaby. Michael Arthur with the SIU School of Music is the accompanist and assistant director.
Established in 1990, the choir, which is organized under the SIU School of Music, exists to enhance children’s lives through choral music education and performance, while building a world-class singing group.
