Quantum vacuum authority to speak at Physics Colloquium

A retired professor and expert in quantum physics from Oklahoma will give the Physics Colloquium at 4 p.m. Friday in Neckers 440.

Kimball A. Milton, the George Lynn Cross research professor emeritus at the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Oklahoma, will speak on the quantum frictional forces that exist between two bodies moving in parallel, even within a vacuum, as well as other physical phenomena.

During the last two decades, Milton has concentrated his research on understanding the quantum vacuum and has led that field. He also is well known as the co-author of the authoritative biography of Nobel laureate Julian Schwinger, and he co-authored a standard textbook on classical electrodynamics. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society.
