Media advisory: SIU Carbondale, SIU System to share results of economic impact study

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale, along with the SIU System, will release the results of an economic impact analysis on Monday, Nov. 25, at Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, 1740 Innovation Drive. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., with presentations to begin about 15 minutes later. Reporters, photographers and news crews are invited to cover the event.

The study covers SIU Carbondale’s:

  • Impact in dollar amounts from the university’s operations, student expenditures, visitor spending and alumni income.
  • Number of jobs in Illinois supported by the university’s economic activity.
  • Return on investment of state tax dollars and students’ tuition.

Chancellor Austin Lane will discuss campus updates. Other speakers include:

  • SIU System President Dan Mahony.
  • Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey.
  • Deborah Barnett, SI Now executive director.
  • Jennifer Olson, City of Marion director of business development.

Report authors and SIU Carbondale faculty members Jebaraj Asirvatham and Scott Gilbert also will be available to answer questions.
