Register now for SIU’s Aug. 26 no-cost workshop on successful marketing strategies

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Operating a successful small business in today’s competitive world requires successful marketing strategies. The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will present a transformational one-day conference featuring the latest marketing techniques and tools for businesses on Aug. 26, and entrepreneurs are invited to attend at no cost.

A diverse group of experts will share their insights and experiences during Marketing Unleashed: Creative Strategies for Small Businesses from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, 1740 Innovation Drive.

Workshops, speakers and more

Guest speakers and titles of their presentations include:

  • Jeff Harmon, chief marketing and communications officer for SIU Carbondale/executive director of University Communications and Marketing, will present “Right Audience, Right Message, Right Time.”
  • Dylan Street, CEO of Guerrilla Marketing, a Paducah, Kentucky, based digital marketing and film production company, will speak about “Mastering Lead Generation: From Acquisition to Conversion.”
  • Dick Slackman, a SCORE mentor and subject matter expert who holds several patents in search engine algorithms and records management, will address “Power Your Business Using Email Marketing.”
  • Tobias Merriman, assistant director of the Center for Virtual Expression in the SIU Carbondale College of Liberal Arts, will discuss “Marketing with AI.”
  • Britni Bateman, assistant vice chancellor for development and alumni communications and chief marketing officer for the SIU Foundation, will focus on “Efficient Multitasking Strategies for Solo Marketers.”
  • Devin Miller and Todd Ellis, owners of Big Muddy Media, a digital content creation company specializing in video production for health care and documentary storytelling, will present “Video Production for Digital Platforms.”
  • Niki Davis, SIU Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management Program manager and professor of practice, and Bridget Lescelius, associate lecturer in the School of Journalism and Advertising and manager of the Saluki AdLab at SIU, will offer “Using AI to Boost Your Social Media Performance.”
  • Amy Dion, marketing specialist at the Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIU, will present “Maximizing Your Business Visibility with Google Tools and More.”
