SIU Foundation awards grants for humanities, arts research
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Four research projects in the humanities and the arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale are receiving funds through the SIU Foundation Research and Creative Activities Award.
The project is coordinated through the Office of Vice Chancellor for Research and the SIU Foundation. The goal of this year’s awards is to fund innovative projects in the humanities and the arts that lead to substantial benefits to scholarly, creative and research activities. In all, there were eight proposals; the four awards totaled $46,500, said Costas Tsatsoulis, vice chancellor for research and Graduate School dean.
“The SIU Foundation is proud to support the incredible research being performed every day by the university’s faculty,” said Matt Kupec, vice chancellor for development and alumni relations and CEO of the SIU Foundation. “These projects are tremendous examples of the groundbreaking research taking place on our campus.”
Winning projects involve augmented reality, Saluki Reporting Lab and more
The recipients are:
- Pinckney Benedict, professor, School of Literature, Writing, and Digital Humanities and interim director, Center for Virtual Expression, “The Classroom of Tomorrow: Revolutionizing Learning with Augmented Reality.”
- Finley Freibert, assistant professor, School of Media Arts, “Behind the Pseudonyms: A Genealogical Approach to Queer Media History.”
- Isaac Lausell, associate professor of music and director of jazz studies, and Rossana Cauti, assistant professor of practice and director, SIU String Orchestra, School of Music, “SIU Strings Project.”
- Julia Rendleman and Molly Parker-Stephens, both assistant professors, School of Journalism and Advertising, “The Saluki Reporting Lab.”
