SIU offering no-cost financial literacy workshops in early June

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Make Me Bankable, a series of financial literacy workshops will be offered by Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Small Business Community Navigator Program at locations throughout the region the first week of June.

Make Me Bankable (MMB) is a financial literacy workshop, presented with Operation Hope, to combat credit misunderstandings, improve business financial operations and increase “bankability.” A series of five workshops will be held at locales around Southern Illinois June 4-5 as part of the Small Business Community Navigator Program, which is funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, to help develop fiscally responsible citizens and foster the establishment of viable small businesses.

The workshops are offered at no cost to help participants:

  • Learn the fundamentals of credit, including its various forms.
  • Explore effective strategies to repair and enhance their credit scores.
  • Manage money and credit for maximum potential.

  • June 4, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Carbondale, Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, 1740 Innovation Drive, with Food Works. Register at org.
  • June 5, 8-9 a.m., West Frankfort, West Frankfort Mall Event Center, 1000 Factory Outlet Blvd., with West Frankfort Chamber of Commerce. Sign up by emailing wfchamber@frontier.com.
