Memorial service for former Chancellor Goldman is May 5
A memorial service for former SIU Carbondale Chancellor Samuel Goldman will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in the Student Center Ballrooms.
Goldman, 89, of Carbondale, died April 16. He served as SIU chancellor from 2008 to 2010. He came to SIU Carbondale in 1980 to become dean of the then College of Human Resources. He joined then SIU President Albert Somit’s staff, focusing on regional research and service. Afterward, Goldman served as a professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education in the then College of Education and Human Services. Along with his research, administrative and classroom work, Goldman served on the SIU Faculty Senate’s Judicial Review Board. He retired from SIU in 2003 before being named chancellor in 2008.
Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Camp Ben Frankel, Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois and Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
