Join Hearts in Motion Awareness Walk at SIU on April 27
CARBONDALE, Ill. — An event later this month will increase awareness about heart health and raise funds for healthy heart initiatives.
The Hearts in Motion Awareness Walk is set for April 27 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Campus Lake, and everyone is welcome to participate. SIU’s nursing program is partnering with Southern Illinois Healthcare and the Prairie Heart Institute to sponsor the walk.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 a.m. at Becker Pavilion.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance online. Those who sign up online by April 15 will receive a T-shirt and swag bag. In addition, the team of health care or nursing students that earns the most money for heart health will earn a Quatro’s gift certificate and a trophy. The cost is $25 per individual or $80 for a family of four. There is a reduced registration fee of $20 for health care profession students or cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients.
Proceeds of the walk go to the SIH Foundation and Prairie Heart Foundation to benefit the people and communities of Southern Illinois through heart health initiatives, including educational programming, health screenings by SIH, advances in cardiovascular treatment such as new equipment, and support for social determinants of health such as economic stability and health care access.
Sponsors are also welcome for the walk.
