SIU hosts annual high school press association event for students today

CARBONDALE, Ill. — High school students from throughout the area will gain greater insight into journalism, advertising, yearbook and graphic design today (Feb. 28) at the 73rd annual Southern Illinois School Press Association Winter Conference hosted by SIU Carbondale’s School of Journalism and Advertising

The event begins at 9 a.m. in the Student Center Ballroom D. Aaron Manfull, chair of the Journalism Education Association’s Digital Media Committee, is the keynote speaker. More than 225 students from 15 local high schools attended last year. 

The conference in the SIU Student Center will allow students to hone their skills in a variety of workshops and contests including news writing, editorial cartooning, yearbook theme development, advertising design, featuring writing, photography and informational graphic design. Faculty from the School of Journalism and Advertising and WSIU will serve as judges. Award ceremonies will begin at 12:45 p.m.
