Property Control to use mobile app for equipment inventory

Property Control will employ an innovative solution designed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the annual fixed asset equipment inventory this year with a mobile app. Training sessions for the newly developed program will be Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 14-15, in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium, Room 140A. Attendance is required for all employees responsible for their unit’s equipment inventory.

This training session is a crucial step in preparing for the upcoming annual fixed asset inventory. The session will provide a step-by-step walkthrough of the new mobile application inventory process, ensuring that every user is confident and proficient in using its features.

To ensure that all staff members are well-acquainted the mobile app, training sessions are:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 14 — 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 15 — 10-11:30 a.m.

Pre-registration is not required. Staff members are welcome to attend either session based on their availability.

The new mobile application is the result of a collaborative effort between the Property Control department and the Office of Information Technology, using the powerful Microsoft Power Platform licensed by the university. The application will allow users to effortlessly scan equipment inventory barcodes using their Android or iOS mobile devices equipped with a camera. This not only simplifies the process but also significantly reduces the chances of errors associated with manual data entry.

The application employs automated workflows and approvals and eliminates the need for traditional paper reporting — not only promoting environmental sustainability but also streamlining the entire inventory management process.
