Everyone invited to discussion about broadband equity Feb. 1 at SIU

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Everyone is invited to join in a public discussion focusing on how to achieve reliable broadband internet service across Southern Illinois and the state. The Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Research Park, 1740 Innovation Drive, is the site for the conversation, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1.
The Illinois Broadband Lab and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Office of Broadband are partnering with Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Broadband READY project to host the discussion, which will cover such topics as:
- Insights and updates on the Illinois State Digital Equity Plan and the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program.
- Discussion of regional broadband findings, engagement, initiatives, including Connect Illinois, Broadband Breakthrough and more.
- Collaborative discussions to share perspectives on digital advancements throughout the region.
- Updates on a variety of projects including the Digital Equity Project, digital navigators and the digital literacy curriculum and more.
There will also be time for open discussion, and lunch will be provided. If you plan to attend, RSVP online.
