CARBONDALE, Ill. — Friday Night Lights – a special evening featuring a friendly softball game with Southern Illinois University Carbondale students competing against parents and community members – is happening on Family Weekend.
The game is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Charlotte West Stadium, 253 E. Park St., Carbondale, and everyone is welcome as a participant or spectator.
SIU’s Black Resource Center is sponsoring the event to connect students, parents and supporters and help them grow in appreciation of one another, said Mildred Williams, coordinator.
People can now register online to participate in the game; registration ends at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 27.
You can pick up free tickets to watch the game at the Student Multicultural Resource Center, Student Services Building Room 140, beginning Monday, Sept. 25.
On game night, the gates open at 6 p.m., and the game begins at 6:45 p.m. Some equipment will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own equipment as well.
