SIU participates in Chicago’s Bud Billiken Parade
More than 60 Saluki alumni showed their Saluki spirit this past weekend by participating in the Bud Billiken Parade 2023 on Aug. 12. The 94th annual event gave SIU an opportunity to promote brand awareness, engage community members and prospective students, along with cultivating relationships with alumni.
Tania Wittgenfeld, assistant vice chancellor for external relations in enrollment management, noted that with more than an estimated 300,000 people attending, “our presence and engagement with the community was a great success.”
The parade is a back-to-school tradition and is considered the second largest parade in the nation, behind the Rose Parade in Pasadena, and the largest Black parade in the country.
