New leadership in Faculty Senate, Civil Service Council
Bethany Rader and Elizabeth Cheek were recently elected to lead the Faculty Senate and Civil Service Council, respectively.
Faculty Senate President Rader, an associate professor of microbiology in the College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences, has been involved with the Faculty Senate since 2019 and served as the Senate’s vice president from 2021-2023. She replaces Yueh-Ting Lee, who has served on the Faculty Senate since 2020, including two terms as president from 2021-2023.
Civil Service President Elizabeth Cheek, an administrative assistant in Undergraduate Admissions, has been a Civil Service Council member since 2002 and served as the vice president from 2017-2023. She also participated in the inaugural cohort of the L.E.A.D. SIU Carbondale Initiative. She replaces Anthony Travelstead, who has served on the Civil Service Council and several of its committees since 2008. He was president from 2016-2023.
“I am excited to work with Dr. Rader and Mrs. Cheek as our university continues to grow and implement our Imagine 2030 strategic plan,” said Chancellor Austin A. Lane. “I also want to thank Dr. Lee and Mr. Travelstead for their years of service in representing their constituents and advocating for SIU Carbondale.
“They all exemplify what it means to be Salukis.”
