Kendra Bumpus is the new director of SIU’s residence life and university housing

SIU Carbondale alumna Kendra Bumpus has been selected as the new director of residence life and university housing.

She will begin her new position on July 1 and brings to SIU extensive experience in residence life, university housing and related areas. Most recently, Bumpus has been employed at Florida State University, serving as assistant director of administration and operations for university housing from 2011 to 2018, and then as a graduate assistant in the university’s higher education program for the next four years as she is currently completing her doctorate in higher education with a concentration in student affairs and an interior art and design specialization. She earned the Sherrill W. Ragans’ Leadership and Service Award for her efforts at Florida State University along with a variety of honors at other places.

Her experience also includes serving as area coordinator for the Office of Residence Life at Clemson University, community director for the Office of Residence Life at Arizona State University, and as an assistant hall director for the Office of University Housing at The Ohio State University.

Bumpus earned a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs with an emphasis in student development and learning from Ohio State in 2006. She earned her bachelor’s degree in university studies with minors in psychology and classics at SIU Carbondale in 2004.
