OIT upgrades will limit telecommunication resources this summer
The Office of Information Technology is advising the university community that upgrades to provide high-quality internet access to residential housing in Thompson Point this summer will limit Telecommunications’ services to emergency work only until at least July 31.
Service requests can still be made at this time. With sufficient notice, Telecommunications may be able to review and schedule smaller projects in August. Network Engineering’s services are still available.
The upgrades to six residence halls in Thompson Point are underway and dovetail with last year’s improvements, including new Wi-Fi access points and new wiring to almost 1,300 rooms in Mae Smith, Neely and Schneider residence halls, commonly called the Towers.
Departments anticipating projects that involve technology infrastructure, such as a network upgrade or the installation of network components, wiring or equipment, should contact Troy Wiseman in Network Engineering at 618-453-6264 or twiseman@siu.edu. Telecommunications requests can be submitted via a Telecommunications Service Request (TSR) Form.
