by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Sarah VanVooren, director of Events and Outreach at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is available for interviews to discuss the lively summer in store at the university, including a plethora of camps for all ages and the Sam Hunt concert at Banterra Center.

A wide variety of enriching, educational, enjoyable camp experiences in June and July will give children and youths the opportunity to learn, check out new things, enhance their athletic skills, create unique artwork, build, explore the great outdoors, make music, design the future, soar through the skies, get their game on, explore careers in medicine and much more. All the while, they will have the chance to make new friends and have a great time.

Concerts are coming back to SIU’s Banterra Center too, this summer, beginning with an Aug. 3 performance by country music star Sam Hunt as part of his Summer on the Outskirts Tour. Hunt’s special guests include Brett Young and Lily Rose.

Hunt’s blockbuster 2014 debut album “Montevallo,” features the hits “Leave the Night On” and “Break Up in a Small Town.” His second album “Southside,” a 2020 release, included “Hard to Forget” and “Kinfolk.” Hunt continues to crank out hits, with “23,” reaching No. 1 on country radio.
