Media advisory: New teacher graduate pinning ceremony

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – A group of 87 graduates from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Teacher Education Program will be recognized during a special pinning ceremony at 5 p.m. on May 10 at Shryock Auditorium.

Graduates from across campus in the Teacher Education Program (TEP), along with the Rend Lake Marketplace, will be honored. Future teachers completing the TEP through SIU at the University Center of Lake County will be honored at University Center on May 6 at 10 a.m.

After three semesters of practical experience, students devote their final semester to full-time student teaching, working in more than 60 schools located all over the region. They will receive their pins, marking the end of their SIU undergraduate experiences, from the teachers they’ve served alongside this spring. A reception will be held after the ceremony for the students, guests, clinical supervisors and cooperating teachers who supervised the SIU students as they put into practice what they learned in classes.

Reporters, photographers and news crews are invited to cover the event. If you are planning to attend or for more information about the program, contact TEP at tep@siu.edu.
