SIU Carbondale to offer coursework through University Center at McHenry County College

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale announces a transformational new partnership with McHenry County College (MCC). Through this partnership, MCC alumni and community members throughout McHenry County will be able to complete SIU Carbondale coursework in accounting, information technology, and industrial maintenance and applied engineering, all starting in fall 2024 at the new University Center at MCC in Woodstock, Illinois.

MCC students have already shown great interest in transferring and earning SIU Carbondale baccalaureate degrees. This partnership makes that pathway even more attractive, bringing the expertise of a doctoral research university to place-bound students, providing more pathways for students with limited options, saving students time and money, and ensuring a seamless transition from MCC to SIU Carbondale.

Clinton Gabbard, president of MCC, observes, “SIU Carbondale is that rare university that truly understands how to fit a world-class education into a local context. They see our students’ unlimited intellectual potential and then set about to eliminate any barrier based on that student being place-bound.”

SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin A. Lane said the partnership with MCC fits well with SIU Carbondale’s strategic plan, Imagine 2030, whose pillars include student success and partnerships.

“SIU Carbondale is committed to providing access and affordability and removing barriers for all students,” Lane said. “We are proud of our beautiful campus and the first-rate education and unique opportunities Salukis receive. Still, we understand not all MCC graduates can move to Carbondale to complete their education, so we will bring SIU Carbondale to McHenry County.”

SIU Carbondale courses offered through the University Center at MCC will be open to both MCC students and community members, and the classes will be taught by SIU Carbondale faculty. The university’s professors have strong relationships and deep connections in their respective disciplines, which will create a rich learning environment for students who take SIU Carbondale coursework at the University Center at MCC. Other advantages to taking SIU Carbondale coursework through the University Center at MCC include reduced travel expenses, tuition savings, access to public transportation and access to other area resources.

Through this new SIU Carbondale connection to McHenry County, the university’s mission of access and opportunity will be achieved, and more lives will be improved and transformed.
