SIU alumnus Tony Adams to present lecture Friday

Tony Adams, a two-degree SIU Carbondale alumnus and a professor and chair of the Department of Communications at Bradley University, will present “Marginally Academic: Learning, Living, and Laboring as a First-Generation Queer," at 4 p.m. Friday, April 21. The lecture in the Marion Kleinau Theatre, located in the Communications Building, is free and open to the public.

Adams’ research focuses on sexual diversity and LGBQ+ concerns such as stigma, social support and self-disclosure. Several of his current projects focus on forgiveness and sexuality by investigating how LGBTQ+ persons live with past homophobic offenses. Underlying all of his research is a commitment to identifying social injustices, challenging harmful cultural norms and improving relationships.

Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in radio-television and a master’s degree in communication studies from SIU.

The lecture is sponsored by the School of Communication Studies and organized by the Student Communication Organization, a registered student organization that is the graduate student organization in the School of Communication Studies.
