Eclipse enthusiast to present lecture Friday
The university community this week can catch a glimpse of what to expect in a year when another total solar eclipse envelops the campus and the area.
“Eclipse 2024 – One Year and One Day to Go,” set for 3-4 p.m. Friday, April 7, in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium. Mike Kentrianakis, an eclipse enthusiast and 20-year veteran producer for CBS News, New York, will speak at the event. Kentrianakis specializes in advising the media in eclipse coverage and has done numerous high-profile interviews related to his eclipse expeditions and experiences.
Kentrianakis also will be available for questions for 30 minutes before and after the event.
Officials also will make announcements about events the university is planning for the eclipse – the second to hit the area since 2017. SIU and Carbondale are positioned at the crossroads of the two celestial events.
