Learn more about the 2024 eclipse on April 7
Just one year and one day from the highly anticipated total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to learn more about the university’s plans and how to become involved during a presentation on Friday, April 7.
The discussion is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge at Old Main in the Student Center. The presentation by Bob Baer, a specialist in the School of Physics and Applied Physics, and Sarah VanVooren, director of Events and Outreach, will discuss the eclipse and events surrounding the event at SIU. Those attending are invited to bring their lunch or purchase food from one of the locations in the Student Center.
That afternoon, eclipse chaser Mike Kentrianakis will share his experiences traveling to eclipses around the world as an individual and member of scientific expeditions during a presentation at 3 p.m. in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium. He is a 20-year veteran producer for CBS News, New York, and has seen 21 total solar eclipses, specializing in advising the media in eclipse coverage.
