Chamber music society to hold two string concerts this weekend
The Southern Illinois Chamber Music Society is presenting two string concerts Friday and Sunday at Southern Illinois University Carbondale featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Andrej Kurti.
Kurti will first perform at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall on the SIU campus. He will perform works from German composer Johann Sebastian Bach, Italian violinist and composer Niccolò Paganini, and Belgian violinist, composer and conductor Eugène Ysaÿe.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, Kurti will be joined by Sofiko Tchetchelashvili and SIU School of Music faculty Michael Barta, Rossana Cauti and William Cernota for a performance at the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship, 105 N. Parrish Lane, Carbondale. They will perform works from Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and German composer Johannes Brahms.
The concerts are open to the public. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students.
Kurti is a professor violin, viola and chamber orchestra at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Tchetchelashvili teaches viola also at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Barta is a professor of violin and chamber music; Cauti is a lecturer in viola, and Cernota is an assistant lecturer in violoncello.
