Media advisory: SIU prof can discuss extreme weather

by Tim Crosby

justin-schoof.jpgCARBONDALE, Ill. – Justin Schoof, a Southern Illinois University Carbondale expert in climate science with a focus on climate change, climate variability and extreme events, is available to talk with media as the area experiences record high temperatures this week and possibly next. Director of the School of Earth Systems and Sustainability and a professor of geography and environmental resources at SIU, Schoof said individual extreme weather events, such as the current high temperatures, are difficult to attribute to climate change but these types of events are likely to be more common as the world warms.

A researcher at SIU since 2006, Schoof teaches courses focused on aspects of environmental science and statistics.

Reporters, photographers or news crews can arrange an interview with Schoof by contacting Tim Crosby, public information coordinator, at 618-534-3045 or crosby@siu.edu.
