Sylwester2-sm.jpgCARBONDALE, Ill. — Kevin Sylwester, a professor in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Business and Analytics, is available for interviews about significant increases in inflation, the anticipated Federal Reserve decision to raise interest rates to bring inflation down, and the dangers of recession.

Inflation has hit a 40-year high in the United States, with prices spiking 8.6% over the previous year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday (June 10). The Federal Reserve has responded with an aggressive campaign to raise interest rates, and another rate increase might come as soon as today (June 15). For the first time in history, the average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. has hit $5 nationwide, and many experts fear a recession is looming.
