Ending the semester safely

Dear fellow Salukis:

As we prepare to celebrate the end of the spring 2022 semester, we would like to take a moment to reflect on efforts within our community to improve safety on campus. We enjoyed a productive semester, thanks to student, faculty and staff partnerships to help foster a safe learning environment.

During the fall 2021 semester, students, staff and university leadership came together to discuss ways to make the SIU Carbondale experience safer, and we continued these efforts during the spring semester. Our accomplishments include:

  • Additional foot patrols and presence.
  • Night safety walks.
  • Meeting with community partners.
  • Notifications for off-campus incidents.
  • Continued conversations with the City of Carbondale.
  • On-campus Salukis helping Salukis off campus.
  • Saluki Cares Day.

Safety is the responsibility of everyone. We encourage you to be active members of the community and report suspicious activity. We offer special thanks to our student leaders for their continued support and steadfast efforts in making SIU Carbondale even better.

We hope you have a good summer. To those of you who are graduating, congratulations! To those of you returning in the fall, we look forward to seeing you in a few months.

Sincerely,
