‘Reproductions’ takes to Kleinau Theatre stage this week

Shelby Swafford, a doctoral student in communication studies, will take a look back at previous Kleinau Theatre performances when she presents her solo show “Reproductions,” later this week at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Performances are at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 24, through Saturday, March 26. The performance contains mature themes. General admission tickets are $7 and $5 for students with a student ID. For reservations, email kleinautheatresiu@gmail.com.

The show description states “archives are accumulations, preservations, collections. ‘Reproductions’ is an experiment in performing performance archives. Through exploring the Marion Kleinau Theatre archives, this this solo show re-performs queer and feminist performances throughout Kleinau history.” The performance focuses on what stories and traces of one’s past is worthy of preserving.

The performance is co-directed by Craig Gingrich-Philbook, a professor of communication studies, and Devin Collins, a doctoral student also in communication studies.

The theater is on the second floor of the Communications Building. Audience members will be asked to wear masks. Individuals with disabilities are welcome; call 618-453-5738 to request accommodations.
