LastPass invitations will be provided soon to faculty, staff

Faculty and staff will soon receive free access to LastPass Business, which will provide a single, secure location to manage passwords and store digital records including Wi-Fi passwords, membership numbers and insurance card information.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is urging the campus community to adopt LastPass as the preferred storage tool for university passwords, accounts and content. Faculty and staff should look for their LastPass invitation from the OIT via SIU email beginning the week of March 21.

LastPass will provide convenience for users while adding to the university’s cyber defense efforts by using a single, master password to access accounts. Once the password is saved, it will be available when needed — with no multiple guesses, getting locked out of accounts, or passwords being “hidden” under keyboards.

SIU also secured LastPass Premium accounts for faculty, staff, students, alumni, and retirees for personal information protection. Premium account protection can be shared with up to five family members. For convenience, information in the business and premium (personal) accounts can be combined; however, passwords and stored information are sequestered in separate “vaults” to ensure user privacy and security.

Information on LastPass and online training is available here. OIT strongly recommends reading and following the steps provided to install and begin using LastPass. OIT also recommends accepting the business account invitation and completing that setup before installing the premium (personal) account.

Students, alumni, and retirees may enroll in LastPass (a personal account) by following the directions here.
