Federally mandated training for preventing harassment and discrimination is due by Dec. 31

All faculty and staff are expected to complete the federally mandated Preventing Harassment and Discrimination training by Dec. 31.

This training combines the federal Title IX/VAWA requirements with the State of Illinois Harassment and Discrimination Prevention requirements.  Failure to complete the training may constitute a violation of the Ethics Act and could result in possible fines and/or disciplinary action. In compliance with the Ethics Act, the university is required to submit the names of those employees who fail to complete the training to the state’s Executive Ethics Commission. The commission is required to report on its website the names of individuals who failed to complete the training.

Incomplete training must be finished prior to Dec. 31, 2021.  Employees with incomplete training as of Jan. 1, 2022 will appear as non-compliant on the university’s report to the Executive Ethics Commission.

All faculty, staff, graduate assistants, student employees, extra-help employees and volunteers received an email on Oct. 1 that appears from Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Preventing Harassment and Discrimination for Higher Education. The email provided instructions on how to complete the training.

The training is available at admin.fifoundry.net/southern-illinois-university/sign_in.  Chrome, Firefox or Safari are the recommended browsers to complete the training.  Questions about the training and the university’s requirement should be addressed to the Office of Equity and Compliance at odetraining@siu.edu.
