Media Advisory: SIU Air Force ROTC to clean local cemetery, care for Civil War graves
Reporters, photographers and news crews are invited to cover Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Air Force ROTC unit as its members clean up historic Woodlawn Cemetery in Carbondale. The volunteer event is set for 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23. The cemetery is located at 405 W. Main St.
The cemetery contains the graves of more than 20 Civil War veterans, along with other veterans and public figures. Air Force ROTC cadets plan to clean the gravestones, pick up trash and perform other general maintenance as needed.
