Media Advisory – Social Work 50th anniversary event
Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Social Work Program is commemorating its 50th anniversary with a special workshop and celebration on Friday, Oct. 15. Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the event from 1 to 6 p.m. in the Old Main Room, located on the second floor of the Student Center. The celebration will take place both virtually and in person. The events will be compliant with the Restore Illinois Plan. The university is committed to protecting the community, and all those attending must follow current campus and state pandemic safety protocols and wear masks in shared indoor spaces.
A workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. by Sharon Dornberg-Lee will focus on social isolation and the COVID-19 pandemic. Afterward, campus administrators and alumni will speak briefly about the social work program’s history, accomplishments and future direction. A reception with a DJ will follow.
Opportune times for media members to get interesting pictures, interviews and video, include:
- During the 3-3:30 p.m. break following the workshop.
- Between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. as those connected with the program share their memories, thoughts and visions.
- During the reception, set for 4:30-6 p.m.
