Media Advisory: Undergraduate research highlighted with poster session at SIU

Reporters, photographers and news crews are invited to attend Southern Illinois University’s Research Experience for Undergraduates poster session, set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the second floor atrium at Neckers Science Building.

Students will be prepared to discuss their research projects, which include a wide variety of science-related topics. The day will highlight another way SIU emphasizes involving undergraduate students in cutting-edge research, often reserved for graduate students at other institutions.

SIU’s REU is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. It has been in place at SIU since 2006 but was suspended last summer due to the pandemic. The program allows SIU annually to sponsor summer research opportunities for about 14 undergraduates in areas related to interdisciplinary studies in chemistry, physics and engineering.
