Media advisory: Agreement between SIU and Shawnee Community College

Reporters and news crews are invited to attend a signing ceremony on Thursday, May 27, for a reverse transfer agreement between Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Shawnee Community College (SCC). The pact will allow eligible students to earn their associate degrees from Shawnee while they earn a bachelor’s from SIU.

Under the agreement, SCC students who transfer before earning an associate degree are eligible for the program if they have completed a minimum of 15 transferable credit hours and at least one semester at SCC. Students must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA and remain in good academic standing. SCC will confirm the associate degree completion once the student meets academic requirements.

The signing ceremony will be at 8:30 a.m. in the Anthony Hall Balcony Conference Room at SIU Carbondale. Participants from SIU will include Chancellor Austin A. Lane; Meera Komarraju, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs; Amanda Sutton, interim admissions director, Josi Rawls, assistant director for transfer relations, and other university representatives. For Shawnee Community College, President Tim Taylor; Jean Ellen Boyd, SCC interim vice president of academic affairs and student learning, and Lisa Price, SCC vice president of student success and services, will be present.

Journalists who would like to attend should contact Kim Rendfeld, SIU’s chief communications officer, at kim.rendfeld@siu.edu or 765-426-3650 by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 26.
