Media advisory: Expert available to discuss police practices
Southern Illinois University Carbondale has an expert available to assist reporters and news crews with perspective on law enforcement dealing with the public in connection with the murder trial of a former Minneapolis police officer charged in the May 2020 death of George Floyd.
Tammy Rinehart Kochel, professor of criminology and criminal justice, has been at the forefront of policing research for more than a decade and most recently has been researching police practices and public perceptions of the police in St. Louis County, Missouri, and Springfield, Illinois. Her research is critical for improving the quality of policing, and she has partnerships with law enforcement agencies.
