Innovation series begins March 25

A six-week series starting next week for faculty, staff and graduate students throughout the SIU System will center on moving innovative ideas or research with a commercial value from laboratory to market.

The spring 2021 “Innovation Series: Moving Research from Lab to Market” at the SIU Research Park will accommodate both in-person attendance and virtual participation. The series begins Thursday, March 25 and runs each Thursday from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Series topics and dates are:

  • March 25 – “I have an idea! Now what?”
  • April 1 – “Who owns what? Straight talk about intellectual property.”
  • April 8 – “How do I fund my project? Funding resources, strategies and processes.”
  • April 15 – “How to set up a business.”
  • April 22 – “Marketing and licensing the intellectual property.”
  • April 29 – “Next steps: How to start moving my research from lab to market.

Pre-registration is required, though attendance at each session is not mandatory and participants can select which topics and days they want to attend.

The series is in collaboration with SIU’s Office of Technology Transfer, Office of Vice Chancellor for Research, Office of Sponsored Projects Administration, and the Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIU Carbondale.
