Businesses, students can register for SIU’s Virtual Job and Internship Fair

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Businesses can sign up now to participate in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s inaugural Virtual Job and Internship Fair next month.

Previously held on campus, this year’s online fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 22.

Matching Salukis with career opportunities and internships

The event will help businesses recruit qualified students for career positions and internships. The virtual fair will be hosted through Handshake, SIU’s Career Development Center’s online career recruiting platform. Coordinators say that Handshake is the No. 1 way college students get hired.

During previous job fairs held on campus, 500 or more students have participated, along with dozens of employers. Already more than 40 employers have registered for this year’s event.

Prospective employers can sign up now

Employers are encouraged to register online by Sept. 11. Advance registration allows employers time to create their group sessions and build their schedules. Find pricing and all of the details on the job fair website.

Campus units seeking interns are also welcome to participate at no cost and should register soon.

Students can pre-register for free

Students can sign up at any time, up until the day of the fair, for free, at siu.joinhandshake.com.

Students can begin reviewing employer profiles now and schedule sessions and one-on-one appointments with employers as those spots become available.
