Apple and Dell offer discount purchasing, assistance

The Office of Information Technology is reminding university faculty, staff, students and parents who are in the market for personal technology devices about advice and help available from both Apple and Dell.

The help is available from a Dell Ambassador to SIU or through the Dell University online video conferences. Apple has a similar service that connects you with an Apple specialist to determine which device is best for each person’s unique needs.

Both Dell and Apple offer education pricing, with discounts for faculty, staff, students, and parents who are acting on behalf of their students. Both Dell discounts and educational pricing and Apple educational pricing on devices and peripherals are available to review. Apple also allows customers to trade in various Apple devices when making a new purchase. Instructions and values for Apple trade-ins are here.

Each service is managed a bit differently:

  • A Dell Ambassador is available from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. Use the Zoom link and access code provided on the Office of Information Technology’s Computer Purchasing page to start a Zoom meeting with a Dell representative.
  • Dell University conferences are held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 2-7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday. A short video provides more information about this Dell University service.
  • Apple also offers several ways to connect with a specialist — chat online in real time or call Apple at 800-692-7753 (800-My-Apple).

Information about both Dell and Apple products and purchases is included on the OIT Computer Purchasing page.
