‘Momentum: The SIU Magazine’ debuts next week

A magazine-style program that highlights the cutting-edge research, state-of-the art innovation and groundbreaking discoveries at SIU will launch next week on WSIU Channel 8. 

“Momentum: The SIU Magazine” will shine a light on faculty, students and staff and spotlight the work at SIU Carbondale, its School of Medicine and SIU Edwardsville. The first program will air at 9 p.m. June 18 and 5 p.m. June 21. 

The program will also air on local WSIU PBS stations and in the greater Springfield area, along with WSIU 8.1, WUSI 16.1, WSEC 14.1 , WMEC 22.1, and WQEC 27.1. 

The show is produced and edited by HD Motyl, interim chair of the Department of Cinema and the Department of Radio, Television, and Digital Media and Mark Stoffel, a digital media specialist in the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts. 

The program will highlight SIU faculty, staff and students, following their research, breakthroughs, and discoveries. 

The features for the inaugural program are:

  • Work in Associate Professor Sedonia Sipes’ lab in the School of Biological Sciences features the first-ever inventory of Southern Illinois pollinators.
  • Craig Hinde, a former member of the then-SIU Film Production Unit who directed, “This Land Is …” produced by the film production unit 50 years ago.
  • Evan Brown, who earned his doctorate in Educational Administration and Higher Education in May 2020 and is founder of “Meet and Teach.”
  • Joe Krienert, a doctoral graduate student in Environmental Resource and Policy, determines the origins of a mysterious bone.
