CARBONDALE, Ill. — A statewide organization is recognizing the applied engineering and technology programs at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for its pursuit of excellence.

The Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center is presenting the programs with its 2019 Illinois Interest in Excellence recognition. IMEC’s goal, which aligns with a national recognition program, is to assist organizations in implementing a quality framework that supports continuous improvement.

Julie Dunston, director and associate professor of the School of Applied Engineering & Technology at SIU, said an external organization such as IMEC honoring the program is shows how SIU is committed to excellence.

“A team of external reviewers met with our faculty and conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the document that we submitted” Dunston said. “The reviewers concluded that we were deserving of special recognition for the work that we are doing to continuously improve. It shows that we have demonstrated a commitment to accelerating change, growth and driving continual improvement throughout our programs.”

Program officials will receive the award Feb. 27 during IMEC’s 2020 Conference on Enterprise Excellence and Awards Ceremony in Naperville, Illinois.
