Trustees freeze tuition
The SIU Board of Trustees, meeting today (Feb. 13) in Edwardsville, approved freezing tuition and fees across the system for the 2020-21 academic year. Prior to the meeting, Board Chairman Phil Gilbert said the system “remains dedicated to maintaining affordable tuition and fees for Illinois students and families.”
Trustees also approved clarification of existing policy related to fees for students enrolled in both on-campus and off-campus courses. The policy, which had not been enforced, was intended to ensure that all students enrolled in on-campus and online courses simultaneously paid the same fees for available on-campus services, such as the Student Health Center and Student Recreation Center. In addition, the policy was intended to assess the $59 per-credit-hour distance education fee for students taking online courses.
The updated policy approved by the Trustees removes the distance education fee for concurrently enrolled students. Going forward, because the policy had not been enforced, concurrently enrolled students will pay only an additional $44.40 per credit hour for online courses rather than the additional $103.40 per credit hour required by the original policy. Now, all students enrolled simultaneously in on- and off-campus courses will pay $117 per credit hour for all courses.
