SIU will host inaugural Saluki Transfer Day on Feb. 24

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Hundreds of high school students from all over Southern Illinois have gotten a personalized introduction to Southern Illinois University Carbondale since the inception of SIU Day events 1½ years ago. Now, the event is being revised for a new audience – transfer students.

SIU will host its inaugural Saluki Transfer Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 24.

Registrations are still being accepted.

Learn what SIU has to offer

The event is designed to give students who have previously or who are currently attending a community college or other institution of higher learning the chance to learn what SIU can do for them.

Participants will get to explore academic programs that interest them through interactive presentations. They will meet faculty, academic advisers and financial aid specialists, and talk with current Salukis who are transfer students. They will learn about the SIU campus and the many resources available to them.

It’s a unique opportunity for transfer students to explore majors they are considering and learn how SIU can assist them in realizing their academic and career goals.

As an added bonus, SIU will waive the application fee for any term until fall 2022 for anyone who attends the Saluki Transfer Day.

Bolstering partnerships

SIU has nearly 500 articulation agreements with more than 70 colleges and universities across the country, offering clear pathways into many of the university’s degree programs. Nearly half of today’s Salukis' are transfer students as SIU really is a destination for freshmen, transfer and graduate program students.

The university has spread the word about the first Saluki Transfer Day at community colleges across Illinois as well as in Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky. SIU has eliminated out-of-state tuition, so all students now pay the in-state tuition rate.
