New year brings changes in student employment
There are changes that involve student employment in 2020, along with a Feb. 12 deadline for nominating the student employee and student employee supervisor of the year.
The changes involve:
- Hiring paperwork: There are updates to the W-4, Ethics Training, and Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training The documents can also be found on the student employment website on the hiring documents page. The I-9 form hasn't been updated, so the 2019 form should be used.
- Wage Change: All students now have a base wage rate of $9.25 per hour. Job class increases will continue. As an example, a job class increase of .40 cents per hour that was $8.65 is now $9.65. However, automatic rate increases (ARI’s) have been eliminated per SIU policy. As an example, an ARI salary that was $8.35, is now $9.25. More information is available at siu.edu/other-policies/chapter2/student-employment.php.
In addition, the Student Employee of the Year and Student Employee Supervisor of the Year nominations will be accepted until Feb. 12. Nomination criteria and forms are on the Student Employment Awards page.
