Apply now for SIU Women’s Club scholarships

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The SIU Women’s Club will once again be awarding two scholarships in 2020 and applications are now being accepted.

The recipients of the Dorothy Morris Traditional Student Scholarship and the Joyce Guyon Non-Traditional Scholarship will each receive $2,000 awards.

Scholarships honoring SIU first ladies go to SIU students

Any female undergraduate student enrolled in an on-campus degree program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale who has earned a minimum of 24 credits at SIU while achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is eligible to apply for one of the scholarships. Preference is given to those who will have senior status at the conclusion of the spring 2020 semester.

The scholarships are named in honor of two former SIU first ladies who strongly supported women in academia. The awards are funded by voluntary donations from SIU Women’s Club members.

The Dorothy Morris Traditional Student Scholarship will go to a student whose college education takes place within a few years of high school graduation. The Joyce Guyon Non-Traditional Student Scholarship recipient will be a woman whose college educational journey has been interrupted in some way.
