Sign up now for rescheduled SIU Veteran Adventures sporting clays event Nov. 10

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Since inclement weather forced the rescheduling of the fall sporting clays event sponsored by Veteran Adventures at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, there is still time to sign up.

Event moved to Nov. 10

The sporting clays shooting event at the Rend Lake Shooting Complex was originally scheduled for Oct. 26 but due to heavy rains was postponed until Nov. 10.

There are still open spots so any veteran can still sign up to participate – whether they are current members, veterans, or members of the National Guard, Reserves or ROTC.

There is no charge for veterans to join in the clay shoot. All participants will be able to shoot 100 clay targets on the simulated-hunting course.

Targets and more provided

Veteran Adventures, a component of SIU’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center, will cover the cost of the clay targets and provide complementary food and drinks. Free transportation is also available from the center to the shooting complex. The transport leaves Touch of Nature, located about eight miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road, at 8:30 a.m.

Or, participants can meet at the Rend Lake Shooting Complex, located at 11738 Conversation Lane in Whittington. The clay shoot begins at 10 a.m.

Ammunition and guns are not included. Those attending may rent or purchase shooting equipment at the complex or bring their own. Vets should also bring a valid Illinois Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card.

Register online

Sign up online no later than Nov. 8 for the sporting clays shoot.
