‘Movie Night at Morris’ looks at SIU history

In observance of the university’s 150th anniversary and Homecoming Weekend, “Movie Night at Morris” next week will reflect on SIU history.

Recently digitized historic film about SIU Carbondale from the University Archives will be presented beginning at 6 p.m., Tuesday in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium. The screening is free and open to the public.

The films feature:

  • 1949 Diamond Jubilee Homecoming.
  • SIU Story, a promotional film highlighting academics, student life and facilities in the mid-1950s.
  • The Year of the Saluki, a 1960 promotional film showcasing the transition from a teacher’s college to a university.
  • Moratorium, Oct. 15, 1969, SIU students’ participation to end the Vietnam War held 50 years ago on Oct. 15.
